House on Metolius

We live near Bend, but for four years running our family has made a mid-November staycation at House On Metolius part of our calendar to mark the start of “real fall.” It’s a special, almost magical place, and the yearly visit has become a highlight for us. We pick up a prime rib from Sisters Smokehouse, settle into one of the really cozy cabins, and spend the day wandering the property. The cabins are clean, comfortable, and well equipped, while the scenery and quiet are something else. It’s a lovely getaway for slowing down and spending time together.

I sometimes camp in the nearby National Forest. When there’s a dance or party at the house, you can hear it for miles. I come out here for quiet, though that’s just my preference. At least they always turn things down by 10 p.m. 👍 Remember when everyone gave the woods that kind of courtesy? Business seems good in summer.

The chef was outstanding and handled dietary restrictions well. Such a beautiful place to unwind, with idyllic scenery all around.

The newer cabin I stayed in was modern, comfortable, and laid out well, with everything we needed for a weekend family wedding. The rooms and cabins were comfortable in general, and the location had spectacular views. Early October weather was perfect. We did have trouble with the hot water at night, though.
