Days Inn by Wyndham Canastota/Verona

The location worked well for our drive through New York toward Niagara Falls, and there was plenty of green space to take the dog out. We appreciated being able to bring the dog for an extra $25. Having the sink outside the bathroom was handy in the morning. The room cost more than the hotel’s quality warranted, though that seemed typical for the area. The hall and stair carpets were stained and dirty. The beds were full size, as the hotel clearly stated, but still cramped for two people. Breakfast was a letdown; we got by with a nearby Dunkin or McDonalds instead.

Breakfast was bargain-basement stuff, mostly Aldi snacks and a single slice of bread or a muffin in a zip bag. The coffee tasted burnt all day. There were spiders and mold all over, including around lampshades and in the bathrooms, and the AC and bathrooms were moldy too. The floors were uneven and disgusting, and there was hair all over the room floors. It seemed like rooms were only properly cleaned about half the time. The people working there are all related to one another. I wouldn’t recommend stopping here on a trip. You’ll feel badly treated and wish you’d slept in your car instead. Codes needs to do a complete run-through!

The staff were friendly, but I didn’t feel safe in the room. The window faced a busy highway and was unlocked, and the door’s safety latch had been broken off, as if the door had been forced. That’s no way to protect customers. The TV was old and had a washed-out picture, so I wouldn’t plan on watching it in that unsafe room.

It was a pleasant stay, and I’d come back. The place had recently been remodeled and was clean and quiet, with a continental breakfast. When I first arrived, the maid even held the door for me.
