Holiday Inn Express and Suites Canon City

The room we finally got had no working outlets or charging ports, and the furniture was stained, worn, and dated. I couldn’t find soap, shampoo, or tissues in the room, and there wasn’t even toilet paper in the lobby restroom. The ovens were broken, so there was no hot breakfast; the hot tub was out of order too, and the lobby coffee was supposedly only available at 6:30 in the morning. Getting that room took four tries. Each time they gave me new keys and sent me to a room that hadn’t been cleaned, with the beds still unmade from the night before. Eventually someone used a master key to find a room with made beds. Their computers were down, so they couldn’t check people in or make reservations. I only got in because I’d booked a month earlier and had a digital key. There were just three cars in the lot. I don’t know if the hotel was closed, shut down, or simply badly understaffed, but something was seriously off. I stay at Hampton Inn properties weekly, and this was nowhere near their usual standard. At best, it felt like a worn-out Quality Inn.

The shower had hot water, which is about the only good thing I can say. There were holes in the ceilings throughout the hallways and in our room. We also had no tissues. When we finally caught someone at the desk to ask for a box, they said they didn’t have any and made no offer to find some or bring them up. Check-in took nearly ten minutes because a sign said to call a number for service, with nobody at the desk. Other guests were waiting too. There was also a notice saying WiFi, breakfast, and the pool weren’t available. They said there’d be bags of snacks in the morning, but there was no food at all. When we checked out, the desk was unattended again. Read the recent reviews before booking, there hasn’t been anything above two stars in the past few months. This place isn’t in good standing, and I plan to contact corporate about what happened.

Two days after we checked out, they gave us a full refund, which I appreciate. We’d paid extra for the Hampton because of its amenities, even though other hotels were cheaper and better located. But the pool and hot tub were closed, the laundry machines weren’t working, and the elevator was out, so we carried our bags up to the third floor. A problem with the breakfast also meant they couldn’t serve what had been advertised. We told the clerk we were unhappy, and he said he’d pass our comments on to the manager. It wasn’t a bad hotel, but call ahead to check what’s working.

The room was clean, but the wallpaper was peeling, the towels still had store tags on them, and the shower looked too gross to use. I was already shocked to find the fire alarm missing, and there was no fridge either. Only one machine in the workout room worked. WiFi was down, and the front desk woman was rude when I asked for it, though she did give me a code. At check-in they kept saying the room was clean but the maid couldn’t make the bed, which seemed odd. They also entered my stay incorrectly, so I lost my earned points because the system showed I hadn’t arrived. Management never replied to my email. It took many days of calling, and even contacting corporate, before I got a receipt. The desk clerk I finally reached was nice and apologetic, and said the hotel was horrible. I wouldn’t stay here again.
