Homewood Suites by Hilton Pittsburgh Southpointe

The room was clean apart from some food bits on the floor and around the trash can. Otherwise it’s a very nice place in a nice area, and the service was excellent. They were really accommodating. I’d definitely go again.

The staff were friendly, but the rooms clearly hadn’t been cleaned thoroughly. The comforter still smelled of perfume from the previous guest, a dirty, dried bath cloth had been left up on the shower curtain rod, and there was hair residue on the soap dish and around the tub. The bathroom with the tub feels ancient and overdue for renovation. The renovation is nice otherwise, but the outdated tubs don’t fit the building’s exterior, the hotel’s presentation, or the room decor. Updating the showers to more modern walk-in styles would bring them in line. Honestly, I prefer Homewood Suites’ traditional family rooms with a full kitchenette.

A comfortable sitting area and a fully functioning kitchen make this a good fit for longer stays. I also loved the personalized welcome when I walked into the room. There’s a relaxing pool and hot tub for downtime, and a great variety of restaurants and boutiques right across the street. I highly recommend the Homewood Suites in Southpointe!

The hotel messed up our booking for my sweet 16 sleepover, and the whole thing was really frustrating. We reserved two rooms, an executive suite and a room with two queens and one king, four to five months ahead. We did get the two queen and king room, but at check-in they said the executive suite type was filled. One room was occupied by a bride, and another had a couple who’d asked to extend their stay. Staff approved that before checking whether someone was booked into the room next, which was us. They didn’t seem very helpful about a problem that was their fault. We had to book a different, worse room for my dad and brother at full price, even though it wasn’t anything like what we wanted. The two queen and king room had plenty of issues too: glitchy TVs, dirty mirrors, Coco Puffs behind the TV stand, a toilet acting weird, and a broken toilet paper holder, among other things. The pool was noisy, with unattended children causing problems for everyone. At checkout, the front desk lady said she’d discount the downgraded room because we hadn’t gotten the one we reserved. Instead, she charged $160 when the listed price was $120 before service fees. My mom pointed it out, and she changed it to $120, which wasn’t a discount. They gave us the general manager’s card to “solve this,” but he still hadn’t emailed us back a month later. They never offered any kind of discount or free stay for the big room we’d booked in the summer, or anything at all. I don’t like being pessimistic about places or people, but this stay kind of sucked and ruined parts of my birthday. I wish I could give it half a star. I hope the hotel gets back to how it used to be and trains the staff better. If they don’t do something about the problems they caused, I’ll make sure people I know don’t choose it, and you should think twice too.
