Hampton Inn & Suites Canton

We booked the Fairfield up the street for a wedding at Gervasi, but construction at the front entrance made us want to leave, and the Hampton was able to take us for two nights. The hotel is definitely dated, though it seems to be in fairly good shape. The beds could use a refresh. Maybe we were spoiled by a new Tru the night before. The AC worked, but was kind of funky, and we had to set it to 62 to be comfortable overnight. Breakfast was good with plenty of choices. Our daughter liked the pool and workout room, and the resident Tuxedo cat out front was friendly and didn’t bother us. We’ll return if we need to stay in the area.

Rooms were clean, and check-in was easy with friendly staff. Breakfast was mostly great, but the sausage was lukewarm and the pastries were cold and dry. The lobby coffee isn’t always hot, it probably depends on the time of day. Those were the only things keeping this at four stars instead of five.

We stayed Friday night and had breakfast around 9:15 Saturday. The oatmeal had run out and wasn’t refilled, and I had to ask the breakfast crew for waffle batter after that ran out too. Not sure whether they refilled it later. The waffle stuck to the iron, and the crew said there was a nonstick element in the batter, but there was no spray available. Breakfast had basic scrambled eggs and sausage links, no potatoes, which seems to be a trend at some places, and weak apple juice. We’re used to getting water at check-in as rewards members, but here you have to ask. The room fan seemed stuck on auto regardless of switching it to low or high. My wife’s keycard also sometimes didn’t fully unlock the room even when the light turned green. We’d stay again if we were in the area and the price was competitive. We usually stay at the Streetsboro location for Kent events, but it cost much more this weekend.

We won’t be back, and I wouldn’t recommend it. When we arrived, there was no hand soap or shower gel, and we had to ask for everything. They knew we were out of shower gel but still didn’t bring towels, so we had to ask for those too. Rooms are only cleaned every other day, and they expect guests to reuse the same towels. Eww, gross. The small wastebaskets filled up, leaving us with two overflowing garbage cans. I asked the girl for an inside room away from the interstate, but she put us outside right by it. Breakfast was cold. Definitely going elsewhere next time.
