Ricardo checked me in and was kind and helpful. The rooms were dated, but very clean, and the beds were comfortable. Everyone on staff was pleasant and helpful, the pool was lovely, and breakfast was good. I’d definitely come back. I didn’t like the staff smoking cigarettes right outside the pool area.
The pool was heated and had nice seating and tables with umbrellas, so it was a good place to relax and take a dip, even though it backs onto a busy road. There was enough parking for my truck with a boat in tow. Restaurants, a convenience store, bars, and nightlife are all within a very short walk. My double queen room had a nice balcony, small refrigerator, microwave, and coffee maker with coffee and creamer. Breakfast was set up daily in the lobby breakfast room and was excellent. A clean, comfortable, convenient, affordable hotel.
The room was what I expected for the price, and the location was convenient for my work in town. But I was very disappointed by how the hotel staff handled my tax exempt form. I work for a public university, which qualifies for tax exempt. I’d stayed at Florida hotels with varying rules, and sometimes I use my own card and get reimbursed, while other times I need an authorization with someone else’s P-card. At check-in, I was told I couldn’t use the form with my personal credit card. Before my appointment Monday, I asked the desk to email a credit card authorization to an address I provided. I gave them the tax exempt form and they copied my ID. The email didn’t go out Monday, so I asked again Tuesday morning. Then I was told I didn’t need the authorization and could pay with my personal card while still using the form. But the final "folio" Wednesday morning included all the taxes. Sorting it out took a long time and involved two different people taking multiple copies of my ID and the form. The person who told me Tuesday that authorization wasn’t needed admitted she didn’t really understand the issue. I eventually got the authorization emailed to them, but then they said they needed an actual copy of the credit card on the form. My workplace doesn’t allow that, and no other place I’ve stayed has asked for it. After all that time, they still wouldn’t use the tax exempt form. I’m not familiar with the law, but the staff weren’t familiar with it either. I’m not upset about Florida law, I’m upset with how the staff handled this and how much unnecessary time it took, after I’d already tried to get things in order for two days. Don’t stay here if you need to use a tax exempt form. The location works well for what we’re doing, but I can’t stay here again because of this. I updated this in response to the owner’s reply, and I had tried to pay using the university credit card in line with what staff told me the policy was. The staff didn’t send the authorization when they said they would, then said I didn’t need it, and on the final day it took so long to resolve the problem.
Molly at the front desk made me feel welcome from the moment I arrived. She was so kind, professional, and helpful during my stay last Friday, and made check-in smooth and really pleasant. She represents the hotel well.
Cleanliness, comfort, location, and some standout staff members are what make this Holiday Inn Express a dependable stay. Its positive reputation on Google, IHG, Priceline, and Tripadvisor is mostly deserved. I’d rate it 4 stars because there are some inconsistencies, but the good points outweigh the drawbacks. Staff get a lot of praise for being welcoming, professional, and helpful. Check-in is often smooth even for late arrivals or busy times, and guests mention people going out of their way to arrange room changes, quiet rooms, early check-ins, or help with special circumstances. That personal attention gives the place a warm feel and a good first impression. Rooms are usually clean, well maintained, and comfortable. Guests often like the beds and pillows, plus touches such as mini-fridges, coffee makers, balconies, and bathrooms that are kept in good shape. For an older building, it’s clear they’ve looked after it and updated the important areas. Housekeeping is often thorough and keeps rooms fresh and stocked. The complimentary hot breakfast is convenient and generally considered a good value, with the usual Holiday Inn Express choices such as eggs, pancakes, coffee, and grab-and-go items. Some guests would like more variety or a few small improvements. The pool is a favorite, described as clean, relaxing, and very “Florida-like.” The gym is adequate, parking is plentiful, and the property feels safe and easy to get around. Restaurants, shops, downtown Cape Coral, Fort Myers, and nearby beaches are easy to reach. There are some isolated snags, including traffic noise depending on the room, occasional maintenance issues, and minor housekeeping mistakes. A handful of guests also describe service problems over policies involving third-party bookings, tax exemptions, or credit card authorizations, as well as rare negative staff interactions. Management responses tend to be thorough and professional, but these cases affect how consistent the experience feels. Some parts look a little dated, and guests mention there’s no hot tub, the lighting could be brighter, and certain room features could use an upgrade. Those aren’t deal-breakers, though you notice them beside newer places. It’s a strong 4-star stay for a reasonable price, especially for business travelers, families, and repeat guests who care more about service and comfort than luxury.
