Ocean Club Hotel

Please check the carpet outside the elevators on the ground floor and fourth floor, where we stayed. That's one example supporting my feedback. Also, the front desk employee working around 11 p.m. on 9/20 should be able to confirm our call about the backed-up bathroom. She had checked us in earlier that day. We were told no one was available then and maintenance would arrive later, though no time was given. We asked for a plunger, got one, and fixed the problem ourselves without hotel staff. If you check with her and get an honest answer, you'll have the facts. Please verify before questioning mine.

We paid $551 a night and didn't get the relaxing ocean-view stay we expected. Construction across from our room started at 7 each morning. The toilet wasn't working properly, the room phone was dead, and the ice machine was broken, so we had to use one on another floor. The tiki bar hadn't been restocked, and the draft beer was just what remained in the keg. We booked in August for late September, then were charged the peak rate while being told it was a slow period. There was nobody at the front desk when we checked out. We made a poor booking choice and learned our lesson.

We ate at the hotel for breakfast and dinner, and both meals were fresh, delicious, and beautifully presented. It's unusual to find dining this good at a hotel. The Ocean Hotel in Cape May is also lovely to stay in, charming and carefully maintained, and spotless throughout. The front desk team were warm and helpful the whole time, and made us feel at home. Our visit surpassed what we expected, and I'd happily recommend it.

Construction began at 7 AM right outside our room on Beach Avenue. Power washers, generators, and jackhammers woke us up, and the noise, fumes, and unattractive view continued through the morning until checkout. We had booked an ocean-view penthouse suite for the balcony and quiet, hoping for a special 15-year anniversary trip. I wrote to management explaining what happened and asking for a fair resolution, but haven't heard back. That silence has made the disappointment worse. I'll consider updating this review depending on their response and how they handle the issue.
