Cliff House Maine

The hotel is gorgeous and very clean, and the location is beautiful. Still, the facilities felt overcrowded and not well equipped for the number of guests, and for the price I don’t think it was worth it, even off-season. I’m not sure I’ll return after this experience. We were a group of 9, and had several disappointing problems, especially with the spa and safety response. Booking spa time for a group was very difficult even when planned ahead. There weren’t enough lockers, so we shared, and requests made well in advance for female service providers weren’t accommodated for several of us. The layout was awkward, with guests walking through the main lobby to get between waiting areas. The saunas were tiny and the spa felt overcrowded. It was also surprising that spa guests couldn’t go directly to the pool or hot tub. On our first night, the hot tub area was extremely crowded, which seems like a problem for a hotel of this size. A very intoxicated guest nearly drowned in the hot tub, then fell and hit her head outside. We told the front desk and asked for security, but nobody came. Our group ended up helping her ourselves. The lack of staff response to a potentially dangerous situation was alarming.

The ocean views were unforgettable, and everything felt super clean and cozy. We loved the pool and hot tub, the live entertainment in the lobby, and the delicious Lobster corn chowder. Highly recommend!

We came for a short winter getaway after new years, and the family package had great benefits. The property was beautiful and clean, and housekeeping were top-notch and very friendly. The indoor pool was quite chilly, though, and two charges showed up on our room that we hadn’t made. Check your bill!

Unfortunately, I’m changing my review to one star. My family has loved the cliff house for years, visiting every year for the past 7 years, and my sister even had her wedding there. During my latest stay, I accidentally left my credit card in the room when I checked out. I told the front desk and froze the card. Less than 24 hours later, someone attempted charges of $700+ at Best Buy. It seems like cleaning staff may have found the card and tried to use it. Who else could get into a locked room after checkout? I told cliff house, and they said they launched an “investigation,” but there’s been no follow-up. When I called, they said it hadn’t happened and that I must have left the card somewhere else. I’m 100% certain I left my card in that hotel room. I never expected this from cliff house. Other reviews have mentioned luxury items going missing from rooms, so maybe it was the same person? We’ve loved cliff house before, but this experience was far from ideal.
