Monarch Cove Inn

The staff’s warmth and care made us feel so welcome and valued, and really made the stay special. They even nurture butterflies, and guests can take pictures with them, which adds a little magic to the experience. The hotel is beautiful, from the atmosphere and views to the whole experience. Thanks for such a memorable stay.

It’s an easy walk into Capitola, and the rooms are comfortable and cozy. We’ve stayed twice now and have already booked another visit in the Lilac Room. The location is excellent, and there are ocean-view room options as well as a communal deck. The staff are attentive and kind.

The location is a plus, with a peaceful walk into town past pretty houses. Just know there’s a very long staircase down the hill, or you can take the long way around. The rooms and grounds feel dated and need major TLC. Our room smelled musty the whole time, even with the windows open for four days and nights. The mattress was badly worn, the quilt was stained, and the old fleece blanket underneath felt gross. It felt like sleeping in an old woman’s bedroom. Breakfast was two stale pastries that seemed to come from a grocery store package, one bagel for us to split, and two cups of fruit salad. Unfortunately, this place is well past its prime.

Katrina is such a warm and lovely caretaker, and we had a wonderful time. The grounds, views, and rooms were fabulous, and the whole property had a great energy. We learned all about the monarch life cycle and got to see the conservation work in action. We’ll definitely be back!
