Comfort Inn & Suites Carbondale University Area

The rooms looked nothing like the online photos, and the smell throughout the hotel was awful. In the first room, there was a bad odor, holes in the wall, and it made my skin itch. The next room smelled a bit better, but the sheets were stained and clearly dirty. We stayed only because someone else had paid and it was already very late. Breakfast was extremely limited too. This place needs new management and a serious deep clean. It was the nastiest hotel I’ve stayed in.

I was charged an extra $100 two days after leaving, and had to open a dispute with PayPal. After nearly three weeks of back and forth with the manager demanding my money back, PayPal closed the case in my favor. My stay was five days and four nights, and housekeeping refused when I asked them to change the sheets. The outdoor seating area had an overflowing trash can with human feces in it, like it hadn’t been emptied in weeks. The fridge had mold, cockroaches were running around, and the supposed game room with slot machines looked like it was under construction. The listing offered a pool and jacuzzi, but there was no jacuzzi and the pool was out of order. I’m not taking cockroaches home with me. This place was disgusting, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who doesn’t want to stay in a filthy environment.

We booked here only because the Holiday Inn across the street was full. We won’t make that choice again. The place felt rundown and dirty, including the hallways, stairs, and common areas, which didn’t look like they’d been cleaned recently. Breakfast was limited, and when we arrived there were no plates. I had to ask the front desk for some. We won’t stay here on another trip to the area.

The beds were comfortable, with pillow-top mattresses, and the rooms were clean. Beyond that, the rooms felt bare and unappealing, with no curtains on the windows. Breakfast had no juice machine, just a mini fridge with a pitcher of milk and juice. There was one ice machine on the ground floor, and the snack machine was broken. We didn’t check the pool or try the TV. They provided bars of soap but no body wash. The place used to be a Rodeway Inn, and it still feels outdated. It’s a Rodeway Inn wearing the Comfort Inn brand, not Comfort Inn standards.
