Hampton Inn Carbondale

The pool and hot tub were the main reason I picked this Hampton, so finding out the whole pool area was closed was unacceptable. There was no sign, and nobody told us at check-in or when we booked. An 8.5x11 sign added later didn’t help. The hot tub heater was broken, the pool was cold, and its bathroom was being remodeled. Renovation work elsewhere meant extra noise and construction debris throughout the hotel. When staff told us the area was closed, they were rude instead of apologetic. Some of the service and cleaning staff need new training in customer courtesy. The website should show the actual conditions. Listing amenities that don’t work is categorically false and deceiving. I like Hampton, but this experience will change where I look in the future. Avoid this one, or at least call first to ask about the renovations. The check-in was quick, the staff member who checked us in was very friendly, and the rooms seemed reasonably good. They had fresh cookies at the front desk, and the lobby and breakfast area looked nice. Those positives would have earned at least four stars, but that’s where they ended.

The friendly staff, comfortable-enough bed, and hot shower were the good parts. We skipped breakfast because we wanted to spend as little time there as possible; we weren’t comfortable with the stay. The hotel felt like a dirty one- or two-star place with the Hampton name on the outside, not what I’d expect from a Hilton property. They said renovations were supposed to be finished in seven days, but I saw no sign of progress besides shipping containers in the parking lot. The common areas and carpets were very dirty, and our hallway, room, and bathroom smelled unpleasant. Ceiling tiles were stained, bathroom grout and caulking were dirty, the ice machines didn’t work, and the pool and spa were out of order and nowhere near ready. The list goes on. We usually stay at Marriott properties, but chose this one because it was close to an event we attended all weekend. Looking back, I’d have driven to the next town for a better stay.

This hotel is being renovated, but it worked perfectly for my overnight stay. I want to thank Rhonda Jake’s, a former hotel worker who now works next door at Shell. She went above and beyond by calling the hotel front desk for me. Stanley then went out of his way to call the maintenance man, Jammie Crumpton, at home before his shift even started this morning. Jammie came to my rescue when my vehicle had a low tire, and his bride, who also works at the hotel, came along to help. You all were like angels today. I appreciate each and every one of you, and have the utmost respect for you. God rewards kind folks like you all. He appreciates you, and so do I❣️

My daughter’s birthday trip was disappointing because the pool and hot tub were out of service. If those amenities are why you’re considering this hotel, don’t bother. The overnight man acted like he didn’t want to be bothered when my autistic son asked him about the pool. The ice machine near the front desk barely works, and the soap in the bathroom gave my son an allergic reaction, so we were up all night dealing with it. Also, don’t let younger children use the TV unsupervised. We found at least two unlocked porn channels while flipping through to find something to watch.
