Carlsbad Inn Beach Resort

We just got home from two nights here, and I loved it. It’s a beautiful place to relax, with the beach just steps away and lots of restaurants close by. The staff were all so friendly, including Yolanda at check-in, Eugene in maintenance, and the activity staff. We especially liked the low-cost or complimentary activities and the fireplaces in the evening. I’d recommend it to anyone looking to get away.

We’re in our second year of owning a unit here. It has an updated, roomy interior, with a complete kitchen, a comfortable living room, and a good-sized bedroom with a king bed. The bathroom has a large shower. The beach is just minutes away, and there’s a pool in the middle of the resort.

This resort seems better suited to families than to anyone hoping for a quiet getaway. The kids at the pool, construction work, and internet installations made our room disturbingly noisy. We were glad to leave, and our 47th anniversary went nothing like I’d planned. I booked the stay for our anniversary. On the last day we could cancel, the resort messaged us about “urgent roof repairs.” When I called, I was told that preregistering at 11 a.m. on check-in day would get us a room away from the noise. The welcome email said preregistration could be done online, so I did that, but it turned out I still had to show up in person after 11. Since this was a staycation, I drove the short distance to Carlsbad and arrived at 11:15. The desk clerk seemed unfriendly. She said the repairs were in another building, but the upper floor I asked for wasn’t available, nor was an ocean view. She said I should have booked a hotel room rather than a condo if I wanted either. Our “garden view” put us about 50 feet from the pool. We were separate from the roof repairs, but only a few doors from the scaffolding going up. The front-desk staff were among the least helpful I’ve dealt with in recent years. It’s a family-friendly resort with plenty of amenities for families, but I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet escape.

We used a timeshare bonus to stay here and were completely satisfied and impressed. The apartment-style room was modern and clean, and the complex was very well maintained. We enjoyed the clean pool and spa, the view, and the adults-only area. The location is great, close to the beach, and all the staff were friendly and professional. We’d absolutely come back.
