Econo Lodge Carlsbad Caverns Area

I originally planned to stay only temporarily for work, but got comfortable and ended up staying about four months. The hotel was solid for working in the Carlsbad area: service was good, my room was cleaned every day, and I never had trouble with roaches or other pests. It was nice for what it was, and I never ran into problems.

The rooms smelled musty, the floors and bathroom were dirty, and there were marks all over the mirrors. We even found two cockroaches. This place was gross. If zero stars were an option, that's what I'd give it.

The breakfast was a little weak, but the rooms were clean and satisfactory, and the service staff were polite and helpful. The price was reasonable.

The room smelled heavily of cigarettes, and we found one dead cockroach in front of the bed and another on the ceiling. We left and checked out right away. Luckily, we hadn’t brought our bags inside; after parking, we already had a bad feeling about the place. The lobby seemed fine and the receptionist was kind, but couldn’t issue a refund, so we went through Expedia and got most of our money back. I’m honestly baffled that this place has ratings above one star, especially when so many reviews mentioned cleanliness and a good stay. Very disappointing.
