Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Carneys Point by IHG

Serenity at the front desk was wonderful. I was exhausted on day four of a round trip from SC to MA for a funeral, after staying in three hotels in three states in three days. Check-in was quick and informative, and she was so friendly. I used to manage a hotel and would have loved to have Serenity on my team. The room was spacious and clean. Even at the lower price, it was better than the other two hotels on my road trip. I'll try to stay here on my next trip to my hometown.

The rooms are quiet, clean, and nicely appointed, and the staff are friendly. Breakfast is on point, too. I've stayed at a lot of hotels, and this one gets just about everything right. I highly recommend the Holiday Inn Express in Pennsville.

A snowstorm left me with a long drive home, so I stayed here because it's close to my job. The room was clean and comfortable, and breakfast the next morning was excellent.

We saw a bed bug on the pillow as soon as we pulled the sheets back and lay down. We jumped right out of bed. We work in healthcare and know how serious exposure can be. Within minutes, we spotted two more bugs crawling on the walls. We'd only been in the room long enough to put our bags down, use the bathroom, and pull back the sheets. We gathered our things and went straight to the desk. We'd been looking for somewhere to sleep for a few hours around midnight during a road trip. I usually have good experiences at Holiday Inn Express, but this was awful. After calling a number to get someone to open the front door after hours, we got in a decent amount of time. There were four of us in two rooms, and we'd just checked in and gone up to the third floor. The same gentleman was at the desk, but said he couldn't do anything until the manager came in the morning. We had photos and physical proof of the bed bug, but couldn't get a refund. The manager said he couldn't give me an answer for two days, until pest control and an inspection were finished. A refund would only be given if inspections of both rooms found signs of bed bugs. We had to get back on the road when we were ready to sleep, find and pay for another hotel, and worry about exposure, with no compensation guaranteed. A refund shouldn't be a maybe. I hope to get one, but it's been a terrible experience. Don't stay here. Update: Management never reached out. Instead, they posted the pest control report as a comment under this review, despite saying they'd contact me. I've been very kind and patient, called once yesterday and twice today to follow up, and the hotel has stopped answering. The manager keeps promising to get back to me and doesn't, and now ignores my calls. I've had to escalate the case to corporate. All I want is a refund for the disruption. They're acting like my bad experience doesn't matter because their pest control report was clear. There was a bed bug in our bed and bugs on the wall. If the manager found bed bugs in his bed at a hotel, he'd leave and want a refund too. This is sad.
