Holiday Inn Express & Suites Carson City by IHG

The pool and spa water looked so green that I wasn’t sure it was clean. The bathtub sprayers were covered in mildew and black gunk, and the ice maker was scaled up. The pool enclosure windows looked like they hadn’t been wiped in years. Around the property, the breakfast sofa was stained and filthy, several chandelier bulbs were out, and the coffee machine took so long you could almost bring a chair to wait. There’s junk inside the brick dumpster enclosure, and the dumpsters themselves are left outside like they’re for sale. There’s no space. This place needs a lot of care and a manager who pays attention to details. I’m not sure where the owner is, but he isn’t present. It’s a long way from feeling like a home away from home.

Everything was ready when I got there, including my details and room key, so check-in was quick. The room was modern and spotless, with a very comfortable bed, good linens, plenty of outlets, and a coffee machine, microwave and mini fridge. The bathroom had nice Dove toiletries. The pool and Jacuzzi were nice, and the hotel felt peaceful and welcoming. Breakfast was very good, and there’s a nice local bar and restaurant nearby. Lovely Holiday inn in beautiful surroundings. Highly recommend.

I found lots of bed bugs and their droppings in the bed. The fire alarm went off three times last night, so I barely slept. The rooms are noisy, and you can hear neighbors talking and people moving around in the hallway. My TV didn’t work, so I couldn’t even watch the news. It was a really bad experience, and I’ll never come back.

Check-in was excellent, but we checked out a day early after the customer service fell apart. Our room had a maintenance problem we asked them to fix, and it mattered because my wife is a 100% disabled veteran. Staff were vague at first, then said the repair wouldn’t happen until after we left. We understood and asked to move rooms, but they became rude and acted put out, as if the problem were our fault. We also reported a broken breakfast appliance. The same staff member said we were using it incorrectly, but it turned out a breaker had tripped. We’re IHG members and usually choose their hotels, but next time we’re in Carson City, I’ll stay with a direct competitor.
