Cali Inn

I regret choosing this hotel when there were other places that would've been more considerate of a quiet guest with just a service animal. I decided to extend my stay, which was a terrible idea. Staff knocked unexpectedly, and my trained service animal alerted me. When I opened the door, an older Indian man and a heavy set black man started yelling and acting rudely. I still hadn't received fresh linen or been offered any service, yet they were angry about my animal, which wasn't causing trouble. After asking me to fill out paperwork for my service animal, which is illegal, they called my room two to four times. The shower also leaks and leaves the floor soaked, and they don't have fresh towels to bring.

The worst part was trying to sleep with the room lit up by the outdoor lights. I took photos at 3 AM to show how bright it stayed, and ended up buying eye masks at Target so I could get any rest on my last night. They really need to fix that, since travelers need a dark room to sleep. There were a few other annoyances. The faucet was so loud that using it at night woke the others, and there was no mirror at the sink, so shaving or doing makeup meant using the closet mirrors. The shower light switch was outside the shower near the sink, where it was easy to mistake for the sink light switch. There was no in-room coffee pot, and the lobby only had instant coffee, which won't suit everyone, though it's not a huge deal. We only got two pillows per bed, and they weren't supportive enough. The room itself was clean and nice, with a fridge and microwave. The location worked well for the LBC area and Santa Monica, close to freeways and several places to eat.

Mr Patel (from Zambia), the manager, is a gem, and there are several good, reasonably priced restaurants within walking distance. 808 Local Hawaiian Grill deserves a shout out. The rooms are large, comfortable, and spotlessly clean, with ample parking and an attractive exterior. There aren't many frills, but my king bed was very comfortable, which matters most to me. It's a pleasant place in a convenient location.

The sheets were dirty. If guests have to clean the room themselves before staying, what's the point of paying cleaners? This place was horrible, and I won't stay again. We should definitely get a discount for the service we didn't receive.
