Red Roof Inn PLUS+ Woodbridge - Carteret

My room was clean and tidy, and the people hanging around seemed sketchy, but they weren’t bothering me. The front desk staff, though, were incredibly rude. They acted like they hated being there, wouldn’t properly look me in the eye, and made me feel like they were questioning why I existed. Getting across the traffic is hard because there’s no zebra crossing. If you don’t have a car or other transport, you’re stuck. I’d also avoid walking around the hotel since there may be a guy who follows people.

The buildings are old, but the rooms were clean, smelled nice, and felt safe. The wood floors throughout have no carpet. It’s a decent place if you just need somewhere for the night.

Getting help here was nearly impossible. The front desk clerk wouldn’t answer the phone and often wasn’t at the desk, so when our toilet stopped working I had to walk the halls looking for someone. I also had to argue over getting extra towels for my family. Then they told my wife our five-year-old made one too many people in the room, even though the website says children five and under stay free. All of this happened in a single day of our two-night stay. I’d rather sleep in my car than stay at a Red Roof Plus again. This was my first and last time at any of their locations.

The location is the one thing I’d give five stars for. It’s right off exit 12 on the NJ Tunpike, with plenty of food and services nearby. Too bad the place isn’t managed better. At night, the dogs bark, and they start up again in the morning. Since lots of dogs are barking, get ready for a lot of noise. I like dogs and thought allowing them was a nice touch, but I was wrong. The tub was very dirty and gross, so I used the bleach I always bring when I travel. You could end up with a fungus on your feet otherwise. The sheet had a huge tear, and I don’t know why they kept using it. The laminate floors were wavy, whether from poor installation or maintenance. I saw the same thing in other rooms being cleaned. That wasn’t the end of the world, though. As for service, the young woman at the desk seemed to hate her job. She wasn’t rude, but she wasn’t helpful either and did the bare minimum. I called several times, thinking she might be busy, then walked over and saw her sitting there. I went back to my room and called again. When I got to the desk, the phone was ringing, but she didn’t pick it up. She’s bad at her job.
