Hampton Inn By Hilton Cave City

It’s a very clean place with tasty breakfast, and it’s centrally located for pretty much anything you’d want to do nearby. The staff were some of the friendliest I’ve ever met at a hotel. My only small complaint was that the room temperature was off the first night, but it was fine the second night.

The toilet kept making a loud noise, and the payment and cash rules made a bad stay worse. They took the payment from my bank before 3 pm check-in. After we’d driven six hours to visit family who aren’t doing well, we were told at check-in there was a $40 incidental charge that had to go on a card because the hotel supposedly doesn’t take cash. At 1 am we had to drive to Glasgow to get cash from our card. NetSpend cards won’t work there. With multiple cards, they also won’t split the charge and will try to charge your main card twice. I work at another Hampton in a different state, and some of this seemed strange. As a former Hilton employee, I thought this hotel was very bad, aside from the stay itself being fine.

My first stay here was fine, but on my second visit I ran into several problems, including safety concerns, and the property wouldn’t fix them. The front desk staff were also incredibly rude. I was in an accessible room because it was the last one available, and thankfully I didn’t need any support. None of the accessibility features worked: the motorized blinds wouldn’t close, and the bathroom door stuck until family with me managed to open it. There was no phone in the bathroom to call for help. The shower diverter didn’t work, and the water was scalding with no way to adjust it. Someone with mobility issues or reduced sensation could have been seriously scalded. When I reported everything, the desk clerk was dismissive and rude, wouldn’t make eye contact, and wouldn’t take a report. I reported it all to Hilton, who sent it back to the property manager, so I’m sure nothing has been fixed.

The breakfast was plentiful and hot, and the staff offered useful recommendations and were very helpful. An older gentleman at the front desk on second shift was amazing, and the younger gentleman from Morris working in the morning was great too, with lots of local knowledge and suggestions. The room was clean. I’ll definitely stay again if I’m passing through.
