I lived at this motel for more than six months, and it was gross and disgusting. My toilet wouldn’t flush for four and a half of those months. Toilets had hot water going into them instead of cold, and the plumbing was put together with gas valves. The owner controlled the water, so you couldn’t adjust the temperature. There were roaches and bed bugs in the rooms, mold, holes in the walls, and heaters that didn’t work. Snakes came into rooms from the unkept basement. Door locks didn’t work, so I bought what I needed at a hardware store to secure my stay. I paid a high price for a room with those problems. The bed’s box spring was broken, and the mattress had bed bugs. I had the bed taken outside, but the owner made us bring it back in and threatened to call the police, so someone else could sleep on that broken, infested bed. Blood stains were visible at the opening of the bed, and the roach problem was apparently ignored. The place charged upwards of $1,000 a month. I was charged $50 extra for paying with a debit card, with the claim that my bank charged them that amount. They also charged $20 each week to get my mail. If you didn’t pay, your mail was thrown away. I have files with postal inspectors because that is a federal offense. Snacks in the office were 2-4 years out of date and unfit to eat. A couple I met during my stay said they had one bed for two adults, while their kids slept side by side on pallets on the floor. The motel had a busted septic system that cost the owners $9,000, which they were trying to avoid paying. I was told the owners’ green cards had expired many years ago. I talked with the health department, code enforcement, a building inspector, and a pesticide specialist. Their recommendation was to move, which I did. The motel racked up thousands of dollars in fines. This is a half-star motel to stay away from, and they don’t give receipts unless you insist on one.

The rooms were nasty, with bed bugs, roaches, rats, clogged drains, no hot water, and black mold everywhere. It reminded me of the Bates Motel. At least the cops weren’t constantly harassing you for being out of town and passing through.

The owners refuse to update the rooms, and the upkeep is poor, with work needed. Black mold was growing in the room I rented. Every day, they would make new rules in their favor to ensure payment.

It was so nasty. If cockroaches are your thing, this is the place: as soon as we opened the fridge, they came running out. I said, nope, let’s find somewhere else, and we did. If you need a hotel or motel, I wouldn’t recommend cave city. Go to horse cave or somewhere else.

Considering what other people say, the motel was surprisingly not too bad. Life has taught me not to just go by what anyone says, so see and judge for yourself. God will handle the rest. Even after all I’ve been through, I still have to keep faith. For someone with nothing, if you’re lucky enough to find it, this place is affordable, fairly quiet, and overall clean. I’d recommend it.
