The outdoor church under the redwoods was a lovely spot to sit, and the creek was even better for walking meditation. Bring water shoes if you want to wade with the bullfrogs, river otters, and mergansers. My daughter and I came for a self-guided retreat, and the serene, beautiful, comfortable place felt full of consciousness. We loved discovering hearts tucked all around. Our own hearts felt touched and renewed. We’ll be back.

We were so happy just lingering by the creek that we never got around to the ocean. The water was warm enough for the floaties we brought, and we took a short stroll to the nearby country store. The Dreamery made a lovely birthday getaway, close enough to town but tucked away from the busy vacation areas. We had what we needed in the kitchen to make meals, and it really felt like a dream retreat.

The hot tub tucked into the forest was bliss, and though we went out during the day, we kept wanting to return. We found the Dreamery on VRBO for a short spring break getaway. As a teacher, that was a rare couple’s trip for us, the first since our youngest was three, and she’ll soon be 27. The place looked even better than the listing photos, with the rain-fed creek running full and clear and lots of little touches. The house has a cool, simple mid-century feel, like stepping back in time with modern comforts. There’s music, movies, and books too. We can’t wait to come back.

A peaceful, quiet spot in the redwoods where it’s easy to rest and unwind.

That name, “Dreamery,” really suits the place. We had a wonderful three days at the Sequoia Dreamery, and I only wish we’d stayed longer. The quiet, trees, scenery, and river gave the whole place a peaceful feel. The house is spacious and well cared for, with two huge bedrooms, a cozy living room, TV with Netflix, a lovely porch overlooking the Sequoia trees, and a fully equipped kitchen. It feels like home, not somewhere people just pass through. The photos show it well. A couple of practical things: there’s no cellular service at all, so if you need GPS, switch it on inside where the Wi-Fi works. There’s a nice bakery two minutes away, but not much variety in food nearby. BBQ equipment is available. The owners clearly care about the house. There are little notes everywhere explaining where things are and what to do. I found them cute at first, but after a while they made me feel a bit like I was in a museum with instructions all around. Maybe others like or need them, and it’s a small thing, but that was my feeling. The best part is all the outdoor stuff: a secluded hot tub, a shower coming out of a tree, and a private beach by the river, right in front of the house. The water is crystal clear, with enough room to find a swimming spot and a few deep holes. After a hot day, a few minutes in that cold water felt like heaven. I’d absolutely go back.
