Cairn Hotel

The room was quiet and very clean. The staff were welcoming.

The staff, rooms, and service were the worst. We booked two rooms for two nights. Cable TV and continental breakfast were advertised, but the toilets in both rooms were extremely dirty, and the cable didn’t work. When we told the front desk, they said maintenance would come in the morning. After our second complaint, they said maintenance hadn’t shown up. Later, when I asked for an update, the desk said both rooms were on the list of TVs that didn’t work, and there was a DirectTV work order for the following week. At 7 a.m. there was no continental breakfast; we were told the breakfast crew was running late.

We booked in January and checked in during May, with no mention of renovation. The TV didn’t work, and nobody came down to fix it when we asked. The attached restaurant had a bar, but we were told it was closed for renovations. There were loud noises until almost 8 p.m. It felt like a very old Motel 6, which somehow seemed better now.

The hotel staff didn’t tell me the property was under construction before I booked. I was put in a newly renovated room, but there was loud banging and music from the rehab crew working right outside my door. At 6 p.m. they said the noise had to continue, and offered to move me to an older, unrenovated room farther from it that was a bit quieter. I agreed, but that room was run down and seemed like it had recently been treated for bed bugs. I found a dead bug in the bed. I didn’t spot any live ones when I looked further, but I was exhausted and couldn’t switch rooms again. The mattress was completely stained. It was revolting, and I had a rough night. After all that, the coffee machine in the breakfast room was broken, so there was no coffee. Gtfo.
