We really enjoyed our stay here. We run a camper rental business, Coastal Camper Rentals of Fernandina, and are always looking for good places for guests and our family. Our site was right on the water, with spectacular sunsets, and we launched our kayak from the campground. We also loved exploring Cedar Key. Sunset Isle has great amenities. The sites are a bit small, but they have full hookups, and the water and sunset views make up for the size. It was a great trip, and we’ll definitely return every year.

The waterfront sites are tight, but the view makes them worthwhile. The inner sites have more space, and there are plenty of laundry, shower, and washroom facilities. Full hookups and cable TV are available, and the staff were very nice. It’s about a 1 1/2-mile bike ride into town. Most sites sit far enough from FL 24 to stay very quiet, though the limited activity on a Sunday evening may have helped. A very pleasant place.

Sunset Isle is an unusual, charming park and just plain fun. The best sunsets are from the park’s pier, and we made new friends and wonderful memories around the communal firepit. I almost hate to leave such a glowing review in case it makes coming back harder. Even with the maintenance issues, we’d return if we get the chance. The park needs upkeep. Its waste system is poorly designed, with too little slope for fast flow, so it plugs up. The shower rooms are old and seldom clean, and cable works at fewer than a quarter of the sites. I hope Treehouse, which recently took over operations, starts putting some profits back into this little gem. The park’s hippie vibe deserves to be polished and properly maintained.

It was quiet while we were there because Camptel had moved out, but that didn’t bother us. The office lady, whose name I’m sorry I can’t remember, and the maintenance man were both extremely helpful and nice. They’re a credit to the company. There are bugs, as you’d expect in Florida, so bring bug spray. The tide goes out, which means evening is the best time if you want to paddle. The Wi-Fi and bathrooms were the only negatives. They know about both, and they’re investing in Wi-Fi for the future. Sometimes there was no toilet paper, and there were lots of bugs because people left the doors open, which wasn’t the staff’s fault. Thanks for having us. We’ll definitely be back.

Our unit was adorable and very clean, and the grounds had well-planned shared spaces. We only stayed one night, but we enjoyed dinner in town and then watched a beautiful sunset with the other guests.
