Hyatt Place Austin Cedar Park

I left early for a competitor hotel, where I immediately got a clean room and excellent service. The second room here still had visible dust, cracked shower tile, fingerprints on the light switches, and residue around the toilet base. The first room, a suite I booked for its extra workspace, had pink mold in the bathroom, cracked shower grout, and a strong musty smell. I could move only to a smaller standard room. When I asked about using a conference room the next day to make up for the workspace I’d lost, I was quoted $350, with a 50% discount offered. I also asked about moving to a suite at the Hyatt Place about 10 minutes away, but they said I’d have to pay its current rate, around $100 more than my original booking. Neither response felt like an effort to resolve things. The rate was adjusted to the smaller room, but that was still more than I would have paid if I’d booked that room with my corporate discount. I shouldn’t have to bear extra cost or inconvenience because the property wasn’t maintained. Cleanliness and customer service were far below what I expect from Hyatt, and this fell well short of the brand standards I’ve experienced before.

The location worked well, with shops like Target within walking distance, and the front desk staff were welcoming and helpful. You also get two water bottles per room each day. Rooms are spacious, with a desk, small fridge, dresser or wardrobe, and pullout couch. The walls are thin, though. I could easily hear regular-volume talking from the rooms above and next door, even if I couldn’t make out the words. The accessible room had a regular tub with grab bars in it and by the toilet. A doorstop or a hinge to hold the main door open would have made wheelchair access easier. Breakfast was pretty good: skillet potatoes, real eggs, frittata, waffles, fruit, and more. The coffee was decent, but the oatmeal was watery every day, and the bagels were awful, haha. The sales team was a bit hard to work with on events and room blocks, and the website’s group discount code interface was really buggy, so be warned. Otherwise, I’d recommend the place.

We were three people staying one night, and the room itself was quite nice. The toilet, though, never worked. We called several times to get it checked, but it took eight hours before we were told nobody was on site to help and that we could change rooms. It was nearly midnight and we had early plans, so we turned that down. The toilet was never fixed.

Ba from the kitchen staff made breakfast something we looked forward to every morning. She adds her own touch to a dish on the days she works. Monday’s meatballs were delicious, and some mornings she made an egg scramble with sausage, peppers, onion, and chickpeas. The hotel was a favorite stop on our road trip, with clean rooms, friendly and accommodating staff, and lots of shopping and dining nearby. It’s also right across from a concert venue, and on our last day we ran into the Oak Ridge Boys in the lobby. So fun!
