Fairfield Inn & Suites Cedar Rapids

The front desk staff were consistently kind, and breakfast was fine, though by 9:30 on the weekend there was no food left. Cleanliness was okay, but I don't need to return, especially with kids. The parking lot was dark and the place wasn't appealing to drive up to. Our only view was the Motel 6 roof and its rooms, since the hotel was right on top of it. I booked a King Suite for extra space, but it was lit by four lamps and the thermostat didn't seem to work, so the temperature wasn't right. The fridge didn't fit its cupboard and the door had to be slammed shut. The bathroom floor was uneven and cracking, and the settled door wouldn't close. The pullout bed was the worst thing I've seen or slept on, barely big enough for one adult, and not a large one. There was no hot tub, though we thought there would be.

The front desk staff were generally helpful, and the woman who checked us out was especially friendly and kind. But the bed was so uncomfortable that my back hurt the next day, the sheets and comforter were visibly stained, and most of the breakfast was inedible. The stay was bad enough that I checked out early.

I've stayed in literally thousands of locations and once reached the top or second-highest tier in Bonvoy, Hhonors, and IHG at the same time. I know running a hotel is hard and can overlook the odd mistake, but this property is a mess in every way. There was trash and broken glass around the lot and grounds, chewed-up wallpaper and furniture, and key cards and exterior doors that stopped working and left people locked out in the cold. Desk staff seemed more interested in chatting with friends on their phones than doing their jobs. The HVAC changed its own settings. Breakfast had flavorless plastic eggs, the hot tub didn't work, and the pool was ice cold. It's 2025, so they should get a level 2 EV charger. The list goes on. This is the worst Marriott property I've ever stayed at. Stay away from this location!

I'm responding to management's reply to my original review. I shouldn't have to discuss things privately with management before posting about my experience for others to see. My room was dirty when I arrived, with women's hair in the bathroom. As a bald man, I can assure you it wasn't mine. The front desk worker on the night of 5/12 was incredibly unprofessional. Two colleagues staying here with me also said they'd repeatedly asked for housekeeping, yet their trash still hadn't been emptied and they'd run out of toilet paper. Rather than downplaying negative feedback, management should fix the problems and avoid earning it.
