Challis Roadhouse

My son was in Challis for a cross country meet, and after it ended I went to get him something to eat. His whole team had time to go to the hot springs, return to the bus, and leave before I could get fries and chicken strips for him. The waitress was really nice, but she had told me 30 minutes and the food took 55. I'd never waited that long at a restaurant. The $18 chicken salad was mostly lettuce, with one chopped-up chicken strip and a few croutons. Very disappointing. I guess “Challis time” means other people's time doesn't matter.

The food was okay, and the place has a nice atmosphere, but the service was rough. It took about five minutes before anyone acknowledged us, even though there were plenty of open tables. Then we waited another 15 minutes to order drinks, and 10 more for the water to arrive. Our chicken wrap and burger took roughly 45-50 minutes after that. We know it's not fast food, but the restaurant wasn't very busy, so that felt excessive. The server never checked back, and my order was wrong, though I ate it anyway. They'd mixed ours up with a similar order at another table. A table that arrived about half an hour after us got two burgers at the same time as our food. I don't know if they were short-staffed.

Loved the decor and atmosphere, and the food was good. The staff were awesome too. We'll stop here every time we're passing through now!

The fries are worth trying, and the food and drinks were great. There was live music too, which was excellent. The staff really went above and beyond, and the atmosphere was great.
