Elkhorn Lodge

It was quiet, spacious, and I appreciated the balcony and the fan in the room. Check-in and check-out were quick and easy. The place was okay, but a little pricey for how dated it felt. Our room seemed to be up against another lodging property, and the Wi-Fi wouldn't connect. The bathroom had a dirty makeup towel, the lights kept flickering and could use an electrical check, and the balcony sliding door had a broken handle.

There were dead gnats everywhere, and a dead wasp on the dusty bathroom windowsill. Staff said guests had been worried about the electricity for months, but they couldn't do anything because the owner lives in NY and doesn't respond to service requests. This place feels like a death trap. The power flickered in every room. Last night I stepped on a cord and it popped and flashed, burning the floor. It had been spliced with an extension cord, and the neutral wire had made contact with the neutral inside the wire. At least there's a balcony we could jump from if the room catches fire.

Housekeeping hadn't come in. The towels were still in the floor trash can, and the bed was unmade. The room had electrical problems, no smoke detector, and a defective body wash dispenser. The sliding glass door still had the broken handle mentioned in comments three weeks ago. The property seems short on maintenance. I used to own a mom-and-pop lodging place, and I rarely post reviews, but the safety issues alone made me do it.

We had a great stay overall. The staff were super nice, and I loved the green grass. The trails are fun for long walks with the dogs. The river was low, so fishing didn't go well. I did get one, but it got away. The rooms were nice, the hot water was great, and the TV had a good channel selection.
