Americas Best Value Inn Champaign

We chose this hotel because it was the only option left, and regretted it. The hallways smelled, we got no room service, and they wouldn't return our deposit over a broken lamp they said we had given them.

There weren't any door cards, so we had to be let into our room. The shower was broken, and there was a stain under the mattress on the top sheet. I was pretty upset, but nowhere else had rooms available and we couldn't just move. They didn't offer a discount or anything when we reported it.

The bed was firm, but the place looked worn down. There was black mold on the wall by the heater, and the door locks barely worked because they often wouldn't read the key card.

The hallway smelled awful, and the whole experience was a mess from the start. They couldn't find my reservation on their computer, so I had to call booking to confirm it. Around 9:50pm, a man from the front office called and said I owed extra fees. Booking said those fees had already been added and seemed confused about why the hotel was asking again. At the front desk, I told the older man with glasses that I was on the phone with a booking representative. He had a terrible attitude, kept insisting I had to pay taxes or leave, then hung up on her while they were talking. He said he was the manager and owner, though a moment earlier I thought he'd said he was just the manager. When I tried to go back to my room, he had deactivated my card. That was incredibly unprofessional. The lady there was nice, at least. It felt like they would do anything to get extra money from guests. I was so angry I said the place should be shut down and that I was definitely suing because the situation interfered with my rest before work. I wouldn't stay there again, and called it the worst hotel ever.
