Sleep Inn Champaign North - Urbana

The front desk clerk was kind and helpful when I asked to move rooms, but by the third room I was exhausted. I ended up sleeping on top of the blanket and would be cautious about stopping here again. We stayed twice, a week apart. On the second visit, they put us in our original room from seven days earlier. The linen clearly hadn’t been changed. The next room looked clean at first, but when we went to bathe a child, there was feces on the toilet lid and seat. As a healthcare professional, I couldn’t overlook that. The third room also seemed clean until we pulled back the stained blankets and found what appeared to be body hair.

My friends stayed at The Sleep Inn while we were all in town for a football game. I’d stayed down the road at the newer, very nice Wyndham hotel, which is owned by the same company. On Saturday night, we planned to order pizza and watch football on the two big lobby TVs. The front desk said the remotes were in The Manager’s locked office and weren’t available. Really? We were made to watch Family Fued instead of college football, as if we were a bunch of 12-year-olds. Treat your guests better than that.

Maria was very helpful, and the hotel was up to date, clean, and comfortable. I’d been hesitant because of the reviews, but my husband and I decided to see for ourselves. If we’re in town again, we’ll definitely stay here.

Update: The receptionist on the morning shift was amazing. Within a few hours, she found us another room that was actually clean. I’m still unhappy about how things started, but I’m grateful she got us into a better room. She was very sweet and clearly wanted to help. The room was okay in size and cheap enough, but it wasn’t cleaned well. We paid for a standard king room and got a queen accessible room instead. The receptionist last night was unresponsive to our concerns, though she did get us a room after saying the one we booked was unavailable and the other similar room had a broken TV. When I asked to switch to what we’d paid for, nothing happened. The receptionist today wasn’t to blame. The one from the night before told me, “We have no management.” During a routine bedbug check, we found mold growing on the bed. There were also mysterious stains on a chair. We were in a room we hadn’t paid for, and it was filthy.
