Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Champaign

As of February 2026, this hotel was undergoing construction or a rehab, and staying there was uncomfortable. I was put on the first floor near the work. The lobby was packed with furniture, and the hallways were dirty with construction dust and debris. If I’d known, I would’ve booked at the Courtyard in Marriott, just 100 ft away across the parking lot. This hotel shouldn’t be open during rehab. I hope it’s a really nice place once the work is done, but as of February 2026 it wasn’t.

The hotel was full, so we couldn’t switch rooms, and we’re never staying here again. Our room was awful: damp smelling, with carpet that smelled like urine, a stained looking old bathtub, mold on the ceiling, and an AC that didn’t cool properly. The room and hotel were very outdated and run down, and clearly need work. The tub’s appearance seemed to come from its age.

The lighting was a harsh, cold white, and the bedside lamp switch was five feet up, I’m not kidding. The smart TV had no cable and only offered a list of outdated or short-lived shows, so you couldn’t come back to relax with TV or fall asleep to a show. Whoever is remodeling this place isn’t thinking of guests. I’ll never return, and I’m Ambassador level, so that would’ve been a bit of money.

The staff were friendly and breakfast was decent, but the rooms smelled bad and the place badly needs an upgrade. Our towels weren’t clean, and there was a bug in the bathroom, luckily unconscious. We booked at the last minute because nothing else was available. It was fairly cheaper than other options, but not worth much. Next time we’ll try somewhere else, even if it’s farther from the university.
