La Quinta Inn Champaign

With the college nearby, I understand the cost may be high, but the hotel is showing wear everywhere. The windows, appliances, walls, and other parts of the building all need attention. Based on my stay, repairing the facilities would make a real difference. This place would probably be my last resort.

It’s a solid three-star place, not a five-star property. The room was clean and well appointed, the bed comfortable, and the staff friendly. Breakfast was acceptable: sausage, eggs, waffles, biscuits and gravy, and juice. Nothing special, but fine. The property is huge, and if you look closely, you’ll spot some defects, though they didn’t affect my stay. I expect the owner will address them eventually.

We’re traveling with our cat, and La Quinta in Champaign welcomes pets. The extra $25 fee felt worth it. The staff were friendly, and the lobby, breakfast room, and our room were cheerful and very clean. There’s an exercise room and free parking, and the pool and patio open in warmer weather. Highly recommend.

I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. The room smelled like roach spray when we checked in. I’d decorated it for my daughter’s birthday staycation, where she wanted a few friends to sleep over. Staff called to say only five people could sleep there, and I told them there would be no more than five. No one was being loud. I left briefly to get a few forgotten things and garbage bags so I could take down the decorations and clean up before everyone headed to bed, since we had church activities in the morning. While I was gone, staff called Champaign police, who phoned me as I drove back. They’d kicked my children out into the cold, and the officers were aggressive with them. There were six young women in the room, but two were already leaving to go home. My children asked for time to clean, but weren’t allowed to remove the decorations or take their food. It’s all on video. When I arrived and asked for my money back, police said staff told them I’d have to wait until morning. They then accused me of being aggressive. I’m direct, but I left so things wouldn’t escalate or set a bad example for the kids watching me. We’ve had similar staycations at other hotels and had a great time. Drury in is the best by far, with beautiful rooms that smell good and excellent customer service. You get what you pay for. I’m contacting corporate and going in the morning to try to get my money back.
