Tru by Hilton Chapel Hill

Parking and WiFi cost extra, and the whole stay was disappointing. After a tiring drive that stretched from 4 hours to 8, I arrived late to find nobody at the desk and no clear way to let staff know I needed to check in. Calling just sent me to an off-site representative. I waited about 10 minutes before a staff member outside noticed me and checked me in. He apologized, but didn't seem concerned that I'd been left waiting. He also parks his extremely large black tahoe/suburban out front, forcing paying customers to maneuver around it because he's too lazy to use a proper spot. My room had more problems. The A/C fan wouldn't stay set, the TV had no remote and wouldn't turn on, and the room phone beeped twice and disconnected when I pressed the front desk button. I had to call from my cell again and go through a representative just to get the hotel's direct number. When I finally spoke to the person who checked me in, I was told there were no spare remotes and no maintenance staff to help. A room should have been ready before I arrived. At the very least, I'd expect working A/C and a TV. On top of the added parking and WiFi charges, I found pet hair on the bedding and nail clippings on the floor. That was unacceptable. The poor staff availability, broken amenities, and questionable cleanliness made for a frustrating, uncomfortable stay. I wouldn't recommend it.

Josh made check-in quick and easy when I arrived at Tru by Hilton. He was polite, paid close attention to what I needed, and even greeted me by name when I came back into the lobby. He's a real asset to the hotel. Mary was wonderful at the desk later, too. She greeted me with a smile and was very helpful. Those two made my stay a great experience.

The lobby and room were very clean, and our overnight stay was great. We arrived a little late after an outpatient hospital procedure, and Danielle at the front desk was amazing. She helped us figure out how to order through Uber Eats, which was new to us since most eateries back home are nearby. Breakfast in the morning was delicious, and the other staff were kind as well. If we're in the area again, this will be our choice.

A quiet place to stay, with a clean, new-build feel and very nice, helpful employees. Breakfast was free and had a good range of choices, though we stuck to protein: sausage, the little cheese omelet, coffee, and a banana. Coffee and hot water for tea were available all the time, and I especially liked the water station for filling a travel bottle. Parking costs extra, but it wasn't too outrageous. I suspect it's meant to keep residents from the neighboring apartment complex from using the lot. This part of Chapel Hill looks new, clean, and safe. There's a small strip mall nearby with restaurants, a drug store, and a grocery store. I'd recommend staying here for business or pleasure.
