Hampton Inn & Suites Charles Town

After section hiking the Appalachian Trail with my dog, we ended up in a king bed at this hotel, ready to pass out. He was calm, quiet, and finally seemed content. He’s trained to stay on his own blanket in hotels, and I’m biased, but he’s such a good dog. I was coming home, and he made it clear he was too bougie for wilderness camping so far from home. He has no trouble camping overnight on backpacking trails in Indiana, but the wild animals in Virginia really seem to creep him out. Maybe he can smell the bears? We don’t have those in Indiana. The receptionist was incredibly friendly, and another hotel worker gave him treats. Honestly, my dog was the whole reason I got a room that day. I’d have been fine camping outside, even in the cold, but when your dog is uncomfortable, the trip is over. I’m grateful this chain feels like a home away from home. Thanks for a restful night’s sleep.

There are lots of thoughtful little touches that make this a nice budget hotel. I really like it, and I’ll definitely be back. Highly recommend.

I’d stayed here many times and used to love it because the service was excellent. Then I found a bug in my bed. I’d never seen a bed bug before, so I photographed it and brought it to the front desk. The clerk got defensive and said I couldn’t get a refund, then suggested it was probably a lantern fly. I’ve seen lantern flies, and it was not one. After looking up bed bugs, I was sure that’s what it was. They moved me to another room, and the issue was considered settled because I “wasn’t allowed to have a refund.” I hadn’t even asked for one then, but I’d absolutely love one now. Two weeks later, I have medical bills, I’m on steroids, and I’m covered in bed bug bites. I feel disgusted and violated. Do what you will with this information.

Everything went well, from check-in through breakfast to checkout, and the hotel met all our needs and more. We had a great stay at Hampton. A special thanks to Kathy at the night desk for being professional and friendly during our visit. When we come to Charlestown, this is where we’ll stay.
