Elliott House Inn

The room was clean and just right for a long weekend, and I'll definitely be back. As a solo traveler, I found the Elliott House Inn perfectly located and walkable to everywhere I wanted to go. The staff were friendly and accommodating. The wine and cheese reception each evening was a nice way to meet other guests, and coffee was available each morning. My only complaint was the street noise. I was in a room on the street side and woke up to it each morning, so bring earplugs. I don't know whether a room farther from the street would have been quieter.

Being close to everything was the main plus here. The rooms, though, are cramped and poorly kept, with peeling paint and a tiny bathroom. There’s no daily housekeeping, and the staff offered little help. Breakfast amounted to coffee or tea from a pump pot, and the afternoon wine and cheese felt cheap and poorly done. I wouldn’t recommend the inn unless location is your only concern.

Room 12 looked out onto a grease trap, which was really disgusting. Inside, the shower was very dirty and the water pressure was poor; the toilet clogged the first time we used it. We could hear everything outside and from the room above, and that noise kept us awake. The room and bed were small, the bed and pillows uncomfortable, and the whole space felt claustrophobic. We took pictures in case hotel leadership would like to see them. It was an awful stay, and I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone.

We’ve stayed at the Elliott House Inn twice and had a great experience both times. Room 19 was quiet, and the room was clean with a comfortable bed. The courtyard is pretty, peaceful, and has plenty of places to sit. Restaurants and shops are an easy walk away, and the staff were friendly. They also offer evening wine and cheese if that appeals to you. Parking is across the street and costs $20 a day, but we had no trouble when arriving or coming and going. I’d happily stay again. I’d read the negative reviews, but those weren’t our experience.
