Krystal Penguin Inn

I stayed three nights in July 2024, and loved the whole experience. It was exactly right for me then, since I just wanted somewhere basic. I liked the spot on a slight hill off the road, with a food shack across the street. I'm looking forward to going back. I was honestly in love with the stay. Words don't quite cover it, but if simple is what you're after, this is the place.

For a couple of nights, this worked really well, and the price was very reasonable compared with nearby hotels and motels. It's well located for the local beaches. The room had a TV, microwave, and refrigerator, and the AC worked well. It was clean and had the towels we needed. My wife noticed an odor in the room, which is why I'm giving four stars instead of five. I wouldn't choose it for a longer stay.

The location suited us perfectly. We took the ferry to Block Island and drove to Newport and Narragansett, and I'd stay here again. It's a basic motel in a good spot for a decent price, with a clean, convenient room, but bring whatever you need beyond the basics. We went out for coffee each morning, and someone was around so rarely that you had to ring the office bell. We were there for a long weekend and only saw anyone at check-in. That was fine with us. Someone did come in daily to make the bed and leave fresh towels.

The owners were very welcoming, even when we checked in late on Friday. They were gracious about working around our travel schedule, and we'll definitely return. We had a great beach weekend, with the beach less than a mile away. The place is no-frills, but had what we needed: TV, AC, a shower, and a mini fridge. The bed was comfortable, the pillows were great, and everything felt clean.
