Courtyard by Marriott Charlotte City Center

The bar staff were amazing and helpful, the food and drinks were good, and the guy who came to fix my TV did a great job. I was there for an event, and the location was within walking distance of a lot of places. When I first entered my room, my feet almost stuck to the floor. The entrance area was filthy and sticky, and I don't understand how housekeeping missed it. It made me feel the room hadn't been cleaned, so I never took my shoes off. There were no complimentary bottles of water either. The TV stopped working again when I changed the channel after it had been fixed, so I just turned it off. I was only staying one night and didn't bother reporting it, but I hope someone checks the cleaning more carefully before a guest is given the room.

The room was uncomfortable to stay in. The sheets smelled unpleasant, there were long hairs on the towels, and the whole room had an odor. The shower didn't drain properly, and the water kept swinging between too hot and too cold. For the price, I also found it surprising that there was no coffee or complimentary breakfast onsite. We were originally meant to stay Sunday night, but an ice storm stranded us and we couldn't make it. When my husband called to ask about moving the reservation to the following night, he was told we'd be charged regardless and met with pushback. We appreciated that a manager eventually got involved and moved the booking, but the first interaction was unnecessarily stressful given the situation. The hotel didn't meet expectations for the cost, and I'd honestly suggest one of the many competitors in the area.

The lobby bar was a nice surprise, always lively when we walked through, but still friendly. We were in town for a Panthers game, and the downtown location made it easy to walk to restaurants, bars, and sights. The rate seemed fair for the area, and I expected parking to cost extra. EV drivers can use the free chargers on the first parking level by the elevators. They’re slow, but being close to the entrance helped make the parking cost feel more worthwhile. The room looked recently renovated in the usual Courtyard style, though some of the work seemed rough. The closet handle came off, a wall lamp wasn’t secured, and there weren’t many outlets or much lighting by the TV. Our corner room looked out toward a mostly empty office building. After the game, street noise bounced between the buildings and sounded close, though it eventually quieted down. Something to keep in mind during an event. Checking in by car was a hassle because guests were blocking the front loop instead of using the marked check-in spaces. I suspect parking in the garage first and getting a pass at the desk would have avoided a fee, but I didn’t go back to check. I’d stay again. It cost more than I usually like to pay, but the location, amenities, and experience made it worth it.

We came for the Panthers game, and the front desk service was 10/10. Stephanie was especially helpful and informative, and let us leave our car in the hotel lot until the game was over. The rooms were clean, roomy, and comfortable. I’d definitely stay again, and would recommend this place to anyone.
