I’ve traveled a lot and all I ask for is clean towels. I don’t need the bed made, but three towels for a three-day stay isn’t enough, and asking the desk just gets the goalposts moved. Fresh towels and room cleaning should be basic, and so should having eggs available instead of running out and making guests wait 20 minutes. That happened during my stay at Fairfield by Marriott Inn and Suites Charlotte Airport. They seemed to focus on rooms after guests leave, rather than the rooms people are currently staying in. Until now, I’ve had no problems with Bonvoy, which I’ve used both abroad and in the US. This stay reflects badly on management and staff supervision. Women use multiple towels, so I hope they understand my point. People tend to look at the highest reviews, but the lowest ones reflect the staff.

The service really stood out. Jamie, our concierge at check-in, learned that my 4-year-old and I would have to leave for the airport before breakfast started, so Jamie arranged bagged breakfasts for us. Our shuttle driver was ready early in the morning, and we even left ahead of schedule. After checkout, staff called to ask whether the pretty rock my daughter had left in the room was sentimental and if I wanted it mailed to me. The room layout and cleanliness met my expectations, and it was good value for money.

For a quick night or two, this was a good value and I’d gladly return. The room felt roomy and was clean, and the hotel was modern and quiet. I only stayed overnight, but was happy with it. Finding breakfast was confusing since it’s in the attached partner hotel.

Jamie made the stay for me. He was such a joy to talk with, and the best concierge I’ve ever encountered. My room was clean, well stocked, and quiet in the hallway. I really appreciated being there.

The shuttle took about 30 minutes to arrive, and the call about meeting at the gate ended with an abrupt hang-up. I felt like I was bothering them when I called for pickup. The room itself had a comfortable bed and working AC, though it was small and looked out onto the parking lot. Breakfast and the airport shuttle were nice extras.
