Residence Inn Charlotte University Research Park

I expected more for $100, or $120 with the dog charge. The room was spacious and had a fridge, microwave, small stovetop, and kitchenette, but limited cleaning during the Covid restrictions may explain the dust and spider webs. The AC seemed not to work, though I didn't give the staff a chance to fix it. On a hotter night that would've been a real problem. We only had a little contact with staff, but they seemed pleasant and caring. Dogs are allowed, which is nice, though I didn't love the extra $20 fee.

Scottie at the front desk was great, even though the rest of the stay fell well below Marriott standards. The room didn't seem regularly cared for, and there was visible glitter on the sofa, which made it clear that the room hadn't been properly checked between one guest checking out and the next arriving. Parking was also plainly inadequate for the number of rooms, and there appeared to be some long-term rentals on the property.

This is an older-style Residence Inn, but it's been kept up well. The room was quiet, breakfast staff were happy to help, and the front desk team were especially helpful. Its location is great for getting onto the new lightrail system, too.

We had a great weekend stay while in town for a fun 5k race. Before we arrived, I messaged the hotel through the Marriott app, and we had a nice chat about the visit. I joked that we liked towel animals and would enjoy some if they felt like making them. The pictures show what was waiting in our room. The staff were so friendly and accommodating, and the hotel was clean and well maintained.
