Sheraton Charlotte Airport Hotel

The shuttle driver was on time, and the lounge seemed to have good food. Staff were pretty nice, and the room setup wasn’t bad. The AC, though, was a problem right away. Maintenance unclogged it and it blew cooler for a bit, but the room stayed very warm. He said it wouldn’t be an issue next year after they remodel all the rooms, which didn’t help me then. I asked the front desk for a fan to move the cool air around, but they didn’t have any, even though they knew about the AC issue.

The hotel itself was beautiful and well maintained, and I was very pleased with the room. The checkout experience was frustrating. I was told checkout was at 11:00 a.m., then asked what time I planned to leave. I guessed 10:00 to 10:30 but said I wasn’t sure. Housekeeping came in at 8:30 the next morning, and then returned at 9:30 while I was on a work call. I had to explain both times that I was still using the room. Those repeated interruptions were inconvenient and made it feel like I was being pushed to leave before the stated checkout time.

The free airport shuttle was the best part of this stay. We were put up at the Sheraton Charlotte Airport after American Airlines delayed our flight by four hours and we missed our connections home. The lobby made a decent first impression, but the details quickly let it down. Some chandelier bulbs were out, big areas of carpet had no furniture, and the layout was confusing. Booths blocked the main stairs to the restaurant, so guests had to use a side entrance. My room was very dark. The wall switch by the door did nothing, so I had to find the bathroom light and then switch on three lamps by hand. The decor felt stuck in the 80s, and the desk had no outlets. I had to hunt for one near the floor, about two feet away, and bring long wires. The bathroom was the worst part. The vanity caulk job looked amateur, and a large marble crack had been repaired without much care for appearance. There was thick dust on the molding and even a spider in the tub. The toilet and shower looked clean, but the lack of attention was obvious. It’s survivable if the airline is paying, but I wouldn’t choose it if there were other options.

Robin at the front desk checked me in during a last-minute stay on 2/19, and she was both kind and professional. I’d forgotten to pack a toothbrush, so she gave me a complimentary one, offered to help with my luggage, and gave me a thorough verbal tour of the hotel. It’s a pretty place, and the people working there make it even better.
