Breakfast at the table was a highlight, with lively conversation among the guests and food that made us feel like we were being treated in a Downton Abbey setting. The hosts were so warm, they made us feel like family. We had the Sky Parlor on the third floor, tucked away at the top of the stairs. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and the room felt wonderfully private and quiet. The home itself is full of history and beauty. This review is late because of our romantic getaway in March. I thought I’d already written it and taken more photos, but I must’ve been swept up in how luxurious the stay felt. Oakenwald Bed and Breakfast is a real gem, and we’ll make the drive back on a future trip to southern Minnesota.

The innkeepers’ hospitality and the four-course breakfast get plenty of praise, and I can see why. As another bed and breakfast owner, I admire what you’ve made at Oakenwald Terrace. The 1897 Victorian mansion is beautifully restored and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It balances historic charm with modern comfort, from spacious rooms with private baths to welcoming shared spaces. There are several porches and a fire pit, too, making it a relaxing place for a romantic getaway, an anniversary, or a quiet escape.

We were headed out early, but still got to enjoy an amazing breakfast with the other guests. Ruth Ann and Bob were attentive, and they had wonderful stories about the house and town. We spent one night in the clean, comfortable Blue Room on the second floor. There was safe off-street parking, too. What a lovely house, and a great option if you find yourself without a room in nearby Lanesboro.

Make time for the morning breakfast. Bob's stories are incredible, and Ruth Ann's blueberry crisp is the best I've ever had. She was also so accommodating about dietary restrictions. We stayed in Anna's room for our anniversary, and it was gorgeous. The Oakenwald has so much history, and Ruth Ann and Bob are such inviting, fun hosts. They put real care into making our stay wonderful and our first anniversary special. This BnB was incredible.

We had a great experience, especially the house tour and those four-course breakfasts. Ruth Ann & Bob were by far the best hosts we've had at any other B&B. Bob grew up in the house and shared interesting insights into its history. We also enjoyed the two local wineries, including Minnesota's largest, Four Daughters. There are surrounding cities to visit, like Lanesboro and Harmony, and local Amish farms as well.
