Athenaeum Hotel

The staff were kind, helpful, and respectful, and the neighboring properties have plenty to see too. Everywhere you look inside, there are traces of the hotel's rich history, from the grand doorways and high ceilings to the hand-carved molding around the tall windows. The staircases add to the charm, and some pieces of history seem frozen in time. It's a gorgeous place unlike anything I've seen. 100 out of 10, you have to come see it!

We were traveling across the country in a truck and had picked this as a place to stop, without realizing it was inside a gated community. Someone coming specifically for the destination may be satisfied, but it wasn't a good fit as a quick stop on our trip. I'm thankful they refunded me.

The location is unparalleled, and we thoroughly enjoyed our vacation at the Athenaeum. The rooms are comfortable despite the building's age, and the staff are consistently excellent and very well managed. Speaking as a former Human Resources executive and organizational consultant, I suggest letting car valets and waiters share their personal Venmo details for tips. Service quality varies, and I've never liked the "peanut butter approach" of paying everyone equally. I prefer to reward excellent service, and I think you should too.

While taking part in a Road Scholar program, I found the room comfortable and every staff member I interacted with went out of their way to help. The food was the best I've had across more than a dozen other Road Scholar programs. The facility seems to officially be rated four stars.
