We'd gone to Cherokee Casino and needed a few hours of rest before heading home. Since the Casino was sold out, I booked this place on the strength of its 8.7 excellence rating. Before we checked in, I asked the front desk representative about possible issues, and he dismissed my concerns. I decided to check the room before unloading the car. There was a bug on the mattress protector, and there was no way I was staying. A zoomed-in image search on Google suggested it looked like a BEDBUG!!!!! I know the hotel is only two stars, but no paying guest should have to face that. I rushed to the desk with the photo. The representative confirmed it was a bug and said that, since I booked through Expedia, I should call them, and he'd confirm a refund when they called. When I asked about the bedbug reporting procedure, he took 30 seconds and said he had to fill out a report. I left and called Expedia. The front desk representative then told their agent to call back at 8 a.m. because a manager had to approve it, which was different from what he'd told me. I went back to ask about the Expedia call and the reporting process. He now said he couldn't authorize a refund and the manager had to, then told me the report was just a shift report saying I claimed it was a bedbug. I asked for the escalation process and the incident report number for such a serious matter. Fourteen hours later, I followed up and found that NO MANAGER knew about the report. I'm concerned about the guests, the process, and whether the place is being represented truthfully.

The location is great, especially with the casino so close, and the price was reasonable for the area. The shuttle was convenient and reliable. Chip, the driver, was friendly, informative, and dependable with pickups. The staff were professional and welcoming, and the room was very nice. We'd gladly stay again and highly recommend it.

It had been a terrible day because I'd broken my foot just hours earlier, but the place helped end it on a good note. The young man at the front desk was kind and accommodating, helping with everything I needed and going above and beyond to make sure I was okay for the night. I got the upper-floor room I asked for, and it was clean and very comfortable. The bed and pillows were perfect. Even with a full parking lot, the whole place stayed quiet. I was very pleased with the room and service.

The staff were nice and helpful, and the hotel and rooms were clean and pleasant. But the beds felt worn out and uncomfortable, and the pillows weren't comfortable either. At dinner time someone heated food in their room microwave, and the awful, overpowering smell filled the second floor and lobby. We had to leave the building for a while to get away from it. The clerk seemed embarrassed when we mentioned it. For one night, the price seemed fair given the worn beds and that smell. I doubt we'll return.

The staff were some of the nicest I've met at any place I've stayed, and the location is great. Rooms are clean and nice, though noise from other rooms and the hallway carries. Free breakfast is a plus, even if it's not great. I'd stay here again.
