Ms Geraldine has worked in the breakfast room for years, so shout-out to her. The bed in my room was comfortable, though my husband said his mattress was just okay and worn down at the front. The door slamming was awful, and room 304 needs attention. We won’t be hurrying back. I chose an accessible king room online because I couldn’t find a regular king option. At check-in, the man offered a double room at no extra charge, as if that made up for it. I asked for a floor with a working ice machine because the one on my previous visit had been out. One elevator was out of order, so we walked down the hall to the other. Its floor buttons weren’t lit, and neither were the indicators showing which floor it stopped at. Getting the luggage cart out was a struggle because the doors closed on me a couple of times and something fell off it. Then I saw how far down the other hall our room was. He’d only given me one key, so I had to go back for another. We also found flaws in the room, as shown in the pictures and video. Breakfast was worse than on our earlier visits. They had eggs and potatoes, but no meat, which disappointed my husband, who likes meat with his eggs. The machine juice was warm, and there was no yogurt on Saturday. Later, neither key worked. I told the front desk how much this issue annoys my husband and got a very lame excuse. In the shower, the water wouldn’t drain. I hadn’t been back in about nine months, and the place has gone downhill. Around 8pm the ice machine was empty, so I had to go to another floor. This morning my husband hit his leg on the bed rail and cursed. He was wearing jeans, thankfully, but his reaction made it clear it still hurt.
We came here after leaving the Hampton Inn next door. We didn’t have a reservation, but the friendly man at the desk found us a one-bedroom suite. It cost under $100, and it was adequate for resting before our drive home. We probably wouldn’t stay again. The room was clean, and the bed wasn’t great but wasn’t uncomfortable either, so we slept well. There’s a large jacuzzi tub that could fit two, and the bathroom sink and shower had good water pressure. The room was also quite dated and needs repairs. The living room furniture is very old, the HVAC vents are dusty and need cleaning, and wallpaper is peeling in the bathroom. Its grout and caulk need redoing. The bathroom itself was very clean, as was the bedroom. The living room TV didn’t work. Only one elevator was working, at the far end of the hall from our room. There was a particular, unpleasant odor in the room, but we decided to put up with it. Breakfast is free but basic, with coffee, very watered-down apple juice, bacon, eggs, French toast sticks, bread, bagels, and make-your-own waffles. The eggs didn’t look good, so we skipped breakfast and went to the Cracker Barrel up the road.
I didn’t expect everything to be perfect, just the basics to work, but this was a very unpleasant stay. The TV didn’t work, rusty faucets left the tub and shower stuck on the shower setting, and the air conditioning ran constantly without keeping the room consistently cool. Some elevator buttons didn’t work either. I couldn’t reach anyone by phone for help. When I went to the front desk, they said someone would come up shortly, but nobody did.
Things have changed since my stay in July 2025, in both good and bad ways. The carpets seem to have been cleaned, the hallway water leak was repaired, and the musty smell is gone. Customer service has declined. The desk was often unattended, and when someone was there, they were sitting in the office on a cell phone. The older woman working in July was fabulous, friendly, and kept breakfast stocked with a great selection, including fruit and yogurt. The bathroom exhaust fan wasn’t working, there was just one elevator and it hadn’t been inspected recently, and only one luggage cart was available. Management still has a lot to improve and update before I’d stay again.
My stay at the Comfort Inn in Chester, VA was terrible from check-in onward. The rooms weren’t clean, and service was very poor. When I arrived at night, I needed a luggage cart. One was broken and nobody could find the other. One of the hotel’s two elevators was out of service too, adding to the inconvenience. This level of service is unacceptable. I won’t return and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable or professional stay.
