Fairbridge Inn Express Chesterton

Thanks for welcoming families, and especially for being dog friendly when the other local hotels aren’t. I was traveling for work and brought the whole family along for a side trip to see the dunes. The rooms are a bit dated, but the staff’s friendliness makes up for it, and the price felt fair. We made ourselves at home for the night, as we usually do, and it was quiet enough that I slept right through. We appreciate it.

We had two double beds, and the staff were nice. The area felt safe, but the room wasn’t very clean. The towels were extremely rough, the sheets felt scratchy, and the pillows were like cotton balls. The mattresses were hard as rocks.

We arrived around 8 p.m. and everything seemed fine until I went outside for a cigarette. A strange man who I assumed lived there asked which room I was in. I told him he didn’t need to know and that he didn’t work there, but he said he did. Since I was with my family, we decided to leave for our safety. The front desk clerk said this wasn’t the first complaint about the man, yet he never spoke to him. We also heard our doorknob move a couple of times, so we definitely left. I asked for a refund because we felt unsafe and was told to call in the morning. We’ll see how that goes. I never write reviews, but this felt unsafe.

8-24-25 Three nights at a decent budget motel. It’ll save you money compared with some places around here, but you get what you pay for. There are lots of fast food and other restaurants nearby, most within walking distance, and getting to the freeway is easy. Lake Michigan beach is just five minutes away.
