Hilton Garden Inn Chesterton

The room was okay and the staff were friendly, but I probably wouldn’t return. They charged the full room fee to the card I left for incidentals, even though I’d already paid with another card, and I had to get the front desk to fix it. Neither treadmill in the fitness room worked, and the Peloton bike couldn’t be used because its seat wouldn’t lower. The hot tub was hot, but had a lot of sand in it. Missing ceiling tiles throughout the building were off-putting and need attention. I liked the area. The dog fee was $80.

I got stuck overnight by a bad snowstorm while on a long drive and stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn in Chesterton, Indiana. It was a comfortable, clean place to wait out the weather, reasonably priced, and everyone I met was kind. Nikki at the lobby bar/restaurant really stood out. It was only her second night on the job, but she managed a full group of guests like an old hand. She was warm, attentive, and worked incredibly hard while things were busy, giving everyone good service. She made the stay special, and I hope her effort gets recognized. Whether you’re passing through Chesterton in a storm or on a normal day, this is a good place to stay. If Nikki’s working, you’ll be in especially good hands.

I’m here for two nights of business travel, and this morning was my first. Since breakfast is advertised to start at 6:00 a.m., I went to the lobby shortly after and asked the front desk where it was served. I was told, bluntly, to sit at a table and order from the menu. There was no greeting, smile, or explanation. As a Hilton Diamond member, I found that surprising and disappointing. I expect a more welcoming, professional interaction, especially at this loyalty tier and first thing in the morning. A friendly explanation would’ve made a difference. It was a small exchange, but first impressions matter. I hope management addresses the front desk hospitality, since the tone didn’t match the Hilton standards I’m used to.

Blackout curtains kept the room dark, and it was quiet. The bathroom looked good, which matters to me, and the room smelled nice. We checked in Nov. 7th. The room, bed, and pillows were all clean and comfortable, and I can’t find anything bad to say about the hotel. I’m a huge critic, and we stay in many hotels. This is one of the best of its kind, by far. There are lots of restaurants and stores close by, plus shampoo, conditioner, lotion, soap, and other amenities. Smokers also have a nice patio area in back. I absolutely recommend it.
