We could hear the street and loading area, with backup beeps going off constantly in the morning, and we could hear our neighbors clearly too. The bathroom sink only trickled instead of running properly. I didn't mention it, figuring construction might have affected it. Those were minor annoyances overall, especially for the good price, and I'd stay again. I was here a few nights with my grandson, about ten years after an earlier work stay that I liked. Our recently renovated room was very nice, and a helpful, friendly front desk worker took care of us. I hadn't expected housekeeping after the first night, so it was a pleasant surprise to return from sightseeing and find the room cleaned. Breakfast was as expected, coffee stayed hot through the day and evening, and the construction didn't disturb us.

The room was clean, breakfast changed day to day, and the location made it easy to walk to Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, Sephora, and more. What stood out most was how cared for I felt. The front desk manager and workers were all genuinely kind, not like they were putting on an act. Maybe that's Midwest friendliness, which I'm not used to coming from the Southwest, but everyone was so nice that, if it weren't for the cold, I'd seriously think about moving to Chicago. I'd stay again when I visit. There was construction during the day, but guests were told about what was happening.

During a seven-night stay made up of several back-to-back reservations, I booked different room types and asked at check-in if I could stay in one room to avoid moving. I said I'd downgrade if needed. I was told this would be fine, as long as I stopped at the desk each day to complete check-in and check-out. I relied on that and unpacked for the stay. The next morning, during that process, another agent told me I had to move because the room type had changed. I explained that another employee had approved keeping the room, but she dismissed that and said it didn't matter what I had been told. The agent who'd made the arrangement was nearby and didn't step in. I understood from the start that a move might be necessary. My issue was the conflicting information and how it was handled. That same agent then ignored me for the rest of my stay, even when she was available and not helping someone else. Most of the other front desk staff were friendly and tried to help, but communication between shifts seemed badly lacking. Nobody followed up with a clear answer, and I had to retell the situation to different employees each day. I was repeatedly told to check back later to see if my room assignment had changed. I had also booked a room for someone traveling with me and arranged for her to check in under her own name. On arrival she was told she couldn't check in unless I was there in person. She had to show screenshots of my earlier messages with the hotel before that was sorted out. Later, she too was asked to change rooms. She'd packed early so she could stay on my floor, as promised, only to find that arrangement hadn't been honored either. One move was especially inconvenient: I was told to bring all my belongings down from the 15th floor before they would give me keys to the new room, even though it was already ready. The front desk operation felt disorganized, and several staff seemed unclear about procedures or earlier arrangements with guests. In more than ten years of traveling with Marriott properties, this was one of my most chaotic stays. I work in hotels myself and have Platinum Elite status. Even on an employee rate, I expected professional, respectful treatment and clear communication. I do want to credit the employees who stayed courteous and genuinely tried to help. I started out in hotel front desk work too, so I know how demanding it is and how much teams need to communicate across shifts. Still, after the repeated confusion and unprofessional encounters, I'd choose somewhere else next time.

The location worked well for my Chicago trip, and I found the Fairfield Inn and Suites near Magnificent Mile to be a good quality option at a budget-friendly price. Staff were helpful and welcoming when I arrived. They noted my request for a bathtub and had a room ready when I got there at noon. They also thanked me for my Marriott Bonvoy loyalty, gave me two full-sized water bottles as a welcome gift, and explained where to get more. My room was next to the elevators, so there was some noise, but it wasn't too bad and I slept well. A few small spots needed paint, and the sink drain had been flipped around strangely when I arrived. Both seemed like little things that wouldn't affect my sleep. Breakfast was complimentary, tasty, and convenient on the second floor, with plenty of seats. There are lots of shops and places to eat nearby. A solid Chicago stay.

I stayed three days in early March while the buildings were under construction, which I think was scheduled to continue until March 31. Even so, I had a great visit. The staff were really professional and friendly, and the amenities were good for the price. A good addition to Streeterville.
