The loud banging was one of the worst parts. Something above us sounded like furniture being knocked over every fifteen to twenty minutes, and we couldn't work out what it was. I even took a video because it was so strange. There was also random trash in the hall, still there when we got back several hours after alerting the front desk. The heater gave off a really bad odor if left on more than fifteen minutes, so we avoided using it at night. The laminate floor was cold in winter and made footsteps loud. Although the bed was soft, some pillowcases and towels had baked in stains. The room was very small. We had one nightstand, a wall mounted TV with nothing below it, a desk, small beverage center, and bench, but no coat hooks or racks. There was a closet with a tiny nightstand inside for drawers, but the room's only nightstand blocked it and made the closet hard to use. The historic building may sound appealing, but its age is obvious. Rooms were mostly clean, and breakfast was pretty good, yet this wasn't the usual Holiday Inn Express experience for us. The location itself is good, near plenty of food and some shops. Staying five to eight blocks farther south would put you closer to the main shopping area and downtown. Given the old building, cramped room, and other issues, I'd personally look at the many nearby hotels that are more updated and spacious without costing much more.

There’s plenty to do nearby, with bars, restaurants, coffee shops, and stores all an easy walk away. If you’re up for a longer walk, Navy Pier is about a 3.5-4 mile round trip. The room was small but cozy and comfortable, with everything in good working order. It suited me fine since I spent most of my time out in the city. Being so centrally located made this a convenient place to return to and relax.

I spent four nights here and had a pretty great stay. The front desk staff were very nice, breakfast was included, and there were lots of things close by. The room was what you’d expect for the price. Good hotel, and I’ll stay here again.

We had fresh towels and linens throughout, and the location made it easy to walk wherever we needed to go. My daughter and I stayed from 02/15/26 to 02/20/26. Our flight got in early, and Valerie at the front desk got us into a room right away. I’d accidentally booked a king instead of two queen beds, but she sorted it out immediately. That was a great start to our stay in Chicago. We skipped breakfast, though coffee and hot chocolate were available around the clock. There was no fridge or microwave, but with the cold weather we just kept our drinks by the window. The day before we left, I asked about a later checkout since our flight was at 6pm, and the front desk said we could stay until 2pm at no extra hassle. Everyone, from the door staff to housekeeping and the front desk, gave solid service. This will be my spot next time I visit Chicago in summer or fall. Thanks to all of you!

We’ve never had a better continental breakfast. Those cinnamon rolls, wow. The room was clean enough, but the outside windows, upper light, and bathroom details could use more attention. The outlets were oddly placed: none in the bathroom, and none near the coffee maker, so I had to move it. I also wish they’d sent the parking QR code before check-in instead of making us ask for it.
