Hotel Chicago Downtown, Autograph Collection

The lobby and amenities made my last-minute New Year booking a pleasant stay. The room was basic, with a decent-sized patch of chipped paint by the window, but it didn't affect our visit. It's just a block from the riverwalk, which made the location perfect. At checkout, the staff knew exactly how to process my gift card.

The room was clean, roomy, and decent, and we'll be back. Daniel was welcoming and friendly, and explained everything we needed to know. At the busy bar, Richard still looked after every guest with care and professionalism. He was so friendly and made our visit even better.

Walking through the corridor at night felt like being in a horror movie, and I didn't feel safe there, especially as someone traveling alone. I've stayed in comparable hotels around the country, and this was the least maintained one while costing much more. The deposit for a single night was $200. I wouldn't recommend it if you're on your own.

The staff member repeatedly knocked at 8:00 a.m. while I was getting dressed, demanding to know when I was leaving. That's much too early to be pushing someone out. This was a really disappointing stay. I'm shocked this rundown, dirty hotel is part of the Marriott Autograph Collection. The wallpaper was peeling, the paint chipped, there were empty picture hooks, and the furniture was badly worn. My room was dirty, with things on the floor, dirty glasses, and trash left from the previous guest. The bed was hard as a rock, and they didn't have the usual luxurious Marriott pillows. The staff wasn't great, either.
