Moxy Chicago Downtown

The front desk made a great first impression, helping us out with free drinks and food coupons when we arrived. We also had a good experience at zombie taco: the food came quickly and the staff were always really nice. Our room had everything we needed for four nights, and it was quiet enough to sleep well. The bathrooms were well appointed, and when we asked for things like towels, the staff were quick to respond. A lot of small-room hotels aimed at millennials promise a fun, relaxed, community feel but don't quite manage it. The Moxy in downtown Chicago actually does. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a laid-back place to stay in Chicago.

The corner room with a city view was beautiful and looked just like the pictures. I came in April for a birthday treat and loved the whole stay, 10/10. The staff were awesome, the lobby had a fun, social feel, and the drinks were strong.

The location is hard to beat, right downtown but away from much of the chaos. Staff at the desk and bar were friendly and extremely helpful, and every employee we dealt with was great. The bartenders especially stood out. When it isn't packed, the lobby is really cool too, with games, records, a bar, and a restaurant. A few things are good to know before booking. On Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights, the lobby crowds can make it very difficult to get around, and there's no easy way to reach the elevators when the bar is busy. Check in as early as you can, especially on a weekend. They should make it easier to get from A to B. The bed was wildly uncomfortable, smaller than I'd expect for a queen, and the comforter felt like a rug. The room had no amenities: no mini fridge or microwave, just one roll of toilet paper, too few towels, and no coffee or water. You really are just getting a room. That's fine in itself, but at these rates, some basics would be nice. The good and bad felt about even. If you go in knowing this won't be the nicest hotel of all time, it's a solid spot. I gave it five stars because I could never throw a business under the bus, but these details matter before you book.

The rooms were clean, and I liked how thoughtfully they made use of the smaller space. What really made this hotel for us, though, was the bar and hangout area. The vibe was IMMACULATE, and everyone got a welcome drink token on arrival. I spent my 30th birthday in Chicago with friends, and this was the perfect place to hang out between our daytime adventures. Lots of activities were within easy walking distance too. I'm so glad we picked it, and I'll recommend it to friends heading to Chicago, 10/10.
