Waking up to snow over the lake and city while I was working in Chicago felt special and grounding. The views alone made the stay worthwhile, and the rainfall shower was a welcome treat after long workdays. The room rate seemed fair for the area and the quality. The Thompson Hotel is in the Gold Coast, close to everything but still calm enough to feel like a retreat. Everyone I met was friendly, and getting around on foot was easy. I kept going back to Sparrow for drinks, Lou Malnati’s for Chicago pizza, and Hendrickx for coffee and baked goods. Tavern, the hotel restaurant, had solid breakfast choices that made mornings simple. I really enjoyed my stay and would happily come back to Chicago.

The staff were friendly and the location was great, but our room was uncomfortably hot. I told the front desk three times between check-in and departure, and they said they’d passed the message along. Still, it was 76 degrees or warmer every night. We’d paid extra for a high-floor king room, and I spent rough nights sweating in bed.

The area gets much livelier over the holidays, so plan your travel arrangements ahead. The hotel service is always awesome, and the bed was so comfortable I slept like a baby every night. A perfect family trip, no doubt!

The Thompson Hotel could be one of the best hotel deals in the country. It’s right in the middle of Chicago’s best nightlife, and the location is hard to beat. GM Anthony Beach and the staff make sure you’re taken care of. I highly recommend staying here.

The room could use a bit more lighting, but the furniture was nice and the bed was comfortable. Check-in went well. Ody was very friendly and helped find me a room when I arrived earlier than expected. The location is great.
