The owners were welcoming and kept in touch, even though we arrived late at night. Once we parked and walked up to the building, I felt safe, though I can understand why the remote setting might worry someone traveling alone. Our room was clean, and the building looked almost new. Breakfast was basic but suited us before we hit the road. It’s easy to find with GPS and costs less than the Carter lake resort. The place might be more accurately called a bed and breakfast.

The owner was friendly, and the stay beat my expectations by quite a bit. It’s tucked away and quiet, though our maps had some trouble getting us back to the main roads. Nearby places seemed to be run-down cabins, so this was a welcome change. The separate house felt a bit like a friend’s renovated basement. Our Tempur-Pedic bed was comfortable, and the place stayed warm in winter and was very clean. I was pleasantly surprised by the sauna downstairs. It’s near Crater Lake, and I’d recommend it, even though it’s neither a hotel nor really a B&B. Breakfast is fruit, cereal, granola, yogurt, or bagels.

We canceled on Saturday because the whole process had already left us uneasy. The $130 price for what looked like a small room at a two-star inn didn’t help, and I was glad we canceled. The website gave very little to go on. At booking, each room had only one or two photos, and any description was about a sentence long, with no real explanation of the place or what the price covered. I also saw that it was listed as a two-star “hotel.” The booking information was confusing too. Expedia showed one room available, even after we booked, while the Inn’s “website” showed none. Everything in the area was booked, and we were reserving about a month ahead, so we moved quickly. I called both the Inn and Expedia to check whether the reservation had actually gone through. No one answered before 8 on Saturday, and the generic voicemail instead of a business greeting felt unprofessional and uncomfortable. I emailed that night to confirm the booking, ask about the room, and mention the voicemail. They didn’t reply until Thursday morning. The response I got was rude: “We are a bed and breakfast not HOTEL, I you have reservations, please cancel your reservation with the booking venue you booked us through. Many lodging affiliates will say ‘LAST ROOM’ so that is my advice to you...more homework”

A lovely spot, though the road leading there is a bit rough.

Quick, tasty food. A good stop if you’re hungry while heading in or out.
